Haus Hiltl
The world’s first vegetarian restaurant is located in the heart of Zurich, near the Bahnhofstrasse.

According to Guinness World Records, Haus Hiltl is the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. A few years after its opening in 1898, Ambrosius Hiltl took on the management of the restaurant, which at that time was mockingly nicknamed the “root bunker”, turning it into a great success thanks to its varied meat-free cooking and unique atmosphere.
In an elegant corner building near Bahnhofstrasse, guests have the choice of an à la carte restaurant with table service or the legendary Hiltl buffet with over 100 delicious homemade dishes, freshly squeezed juices, and soft drinks. On warm summer days, diners can enjoy fresh food and drinks on the patio in the idyllic “Martha’s Courtyard”.
Haus Hiltl is now run by the fourth generation of the Hiltl family, who also offer seminars, events, and cookery classes at the Hiltl Academy.
