Uetliberg – Zurich’s Very Own Mountain
At 871 meters (2,858 feet) above sea level, the Uetliberg towers over the rooftops of Zurich. From the top, visitors are treated to a magnificent panoramic view of the city, the lake, and the Alps.
The Uetliberg is particularly popular in November, as its summit is often above the blanket of fog that frequently envelops the city at this time of year. In winter, the hiking trails are transformed into toboggan runs, while in summer, the mountain is a popular departure point for well-marked hikes and mountain bike tours.
Paths on the Uetliberg
Hohenstein Trail: This path leads from the Triemli bus stop via the playground at Hohensteinplatz. Here, the Hohenstein Teehüsli (in fine weather, open on Sundays from 10am to 4pm) invites walkers to take a relaxing break. From here, it is about 25 minutes to the summit.
Sequoia Avenue: From the Hohensteinplatz playground, a picturesque path leads through the impressive avenue of sequoia trees to the Ringlikon bus stop – perfect for a leisurely walk.
Lantern Path (Alter Uetlibergweg): This steep but rewarding path starts at Albisgüetli and thanks to the lights (switched off between 12.30am and 5am) is particularly enchanting at dusk.
Planet Trail: This themed hike starts at the Felsenegg cableway in Adliswil and in around two hours takes visitors on a journey through the solar system, with information panels along the way.
