Waterside City Walk
This walk winds through the center of Zurich, following three iconic waterways – from the tranquil Schanzengraben canal to the wide promenade at Lake Zurich and the vibrant banks of the Limmat river.

Three different waterways make up the route for this varied walk through the center of Zurich: the historic Schanzengraben canal, the laid-back waterfront promenade by Lake Zurich, and the lively banks of the Limmat. This route, which is approximately four kilometers (2.5 miles) long, offers a perfect combination of natural splendors and city flair.
The route starts at Zurich Main Station and leads straight to the Schanzengraben canal – a former moat. After passing the Old Botanical Garden, it continues on to Lake Zurich, where the promenade between Bürkliplatz and Bellevue is the ideal place for a relaxed stroll.
The final stretch of the walk is along the Limmatquai – offering a view of historic facades, the towers of the Grossmünster, and Zurich’s lively Old Town.
