Diorama Einsiedeln
Not only children are enchanted by what they see: 450 hand-carved wooden figures in oriental attire, 80 sq.m (860 sq. ft) of modeled landscape, and a beautiful, over 30m (100ft) long painted background creating an amazing illusion of depth depict the impressive Christmas story – from the announcement to the shepherds, the scene of the birth of Christ, the arrival of the three Kings, right through to the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt.
A large nativity scene represents a true-to-life reproduction of the region around Bethlehem, which captivates visitors and whisks them away on a journey to foreign lands. The nativity scene was opened in 1954 and since then has lost nothing of its fascination.
In the same building is the Mineral Museum, housing around 1,200 minerals and fossils. At some distance there is also the Museum Panorama Einsiedeln, which lures with a giant-round painting.
